On Saturday, I took a journey to Rittenhouse for the weekly farmers market. It has been awhile since I’ve wandered around Center City just for the fun of it. Since taking some time off from my job, I haven’t had much of a reason or time to. I’ve always passed by this weekly farmers market but have never gotten around to taking the Philadelphia Market entirely in and walking the entire length. I made a point to work the Rittenhouse Farmers Market into my schedule this week and I’m very happy that I did so.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with pinning beautiful photos of healthy entrees to recreate on my Pinterest. I intended to purchase an abundance of fresh veggies for a vegetarian soup I have been itching to make. I even had the recipe on my phone and everything. Unfortunately, like any good shopaholic, I got caught up in all the other incredible purchases that were calling out my name. By the time I left the Philadelphia Market, I had purchased Apple butter, 2 vegan brownies, “home-made” root beer and mini orange tomatoes. Notice a pattern? I’m probably the only person who can attend a farmers market and still manage to avoid buying healthy produce.
It ended up being the perfect Fall day to stroll through a Farmers Market and Philadelphia Parks are the best places to people watch. I hope I can start making this Farmers Market a part of my weekly routine because there is something effortlessly relaxing about it. Everyone appears happy and the market allowed more socializing than your typical grocery run. A lot of the vendors were incredibly cheerful and engaged in truly pleasant Philly neighborhood conversation. The colorful and unique food is always a plus. There is nothing like buying local to show your city some well deserved love.
After walking the Farmers Market, I decided to stroll through Rittenhouse Park and do some people watching. I realized how little I spend my time outside lately. Even when I do, I never have the time to stop, pause and appreciate all that is around me. In Rittenhouse Square, I came across so many interesting scenes and people. There was a street performer who juggled and performed tricks in the center of the park while kids applauded around him. A gorgeous bride and her bridesmaids were shooting wedding photos by the small tower in the center of the park. And like every city, we have your classic “bird lady” feeding mobs of hungry pigeons around her.
Philadelphia has so much to offer. It becomes so easy to live life constantly on the move from one ambition to the next. But it is also important to stop, take the time to refuel and find inspiration. Hopefully, these photos remind you that you can find happiness right around the corner if you’re looking.
