Spontanious Travel: Atlanta

I can honestly tell you that I have no idea how I ended up here. Would you believe me if I told you that sometimes I get random urges to travel to cities that I believe have been neglected from the glossy world of social media. We’ve seen enough of New York and L.A and I decided that it was time for some Atlanta, Georgia appreciation. So one night after a bottle of wine and a binge watch of The Walking Dead (based in GA), I booked a trip to Georiga.

My mom and I decided early on that we wanted to get away for Labor day weekend. Originally that meant somewhere warm like Miami or San Francisco. But my mother is the ultimate #GirlBoss and I try to follow in her footsteps, so school and work got the best of both of us; Which meant that we basically forgot to plan our Labor Day getaway. So like the typical procrastinators that we are, we decided to plan our trip two days before our departure date. We spent all night researching affordable flights to anywhere and everywhere.

Fast forward several hours later, drunk on tiredness, we somehow decided Atlanta, Georgia, was the place to be. Knowing absolutely nothing about the city or Georgia, we placed our bets.

Arriving in Atlanta, I was surprised to say the least. Atlanta was nothing like I had pictured. Things that I expected in typical city environments didn’t seem to exist here. Instead of an influx of highrises, there were small shops and row houses. Coming from Philadelphia, NYC and Chicago, I have high exceptions for what a city is. I immediately think large scale so I was surprised by how small Atlanta actually is. The small high rise was a new concept for me but I really enjoyed the preservation of nature and greenery that was all around. And the southern charm was hard to miss.

Despite its differences from the big cities, I did find some trendy spots as well. One thing I wish cities would take more care of is their nature conservation. I found a lot to admire in Georgia’s atmosphere. I enjoyed strolling the streets, eating outside and touring the historic architecture. Photo of Philadelphia blogger, Amelia Burns in a Trendy Atlanta Bar Mirror

I am happy to be in a new city and to finally have some time away from all of the hustle.  We are staying at, “The St. Regis” in Buckhead, which is absolutely gorgeous. The outdoor pool is especially beautiful and relaxing.

What I have loved the most about Atlanta is easily the food. We have come across an abundance trendy restaurants serving incredibly fresh and delicious foods. One place in particular, King & Duke (right down the street from our hotel) is amazing! The best grilled cheese and tomato soup I’ve ever had!

On a side not, Shay Mitchell is also in Atlanta. As an avid stalker of her snapchat, I almost threw my phone when I realized we were in the same area. I have yet to find her, but I will not stop looking! Of course, I’ll keep you all updated.
