She Came to Play – Xbox One All-Digital Edition Review

xbox gamer girl, she came to play

*This post is in paid partnership with Xbox. All thoughts & opinions are my own

As a young girl, I used to feel very alienated by the gaming industry. Well, maybe it wasn’t always the industry. Growing up, old boyfriends and male friends played video games around me and I was always pushed into the corner to merely watch. They assured me that I probably wouldn’t know how to play, wouldn’t be interested in learning and surely wouldn’t want to play their games. As a result, I grew up assuming that I wasn’t interested in video games.

Now that I’m older I realize how wrong that bias is and was. Those boys were only right about one thing, I didn’t need them to teach me anything

I’ve partnered with Xbox this month to try out their Xbox One S All-Digital Edition Console and Controller. If a year ago, you had told me that at one point I would spend hours gaming, I would have laughed. But having an Xbox of my own has changed my experience with gaming entirely. Without the pressure of trying to prove my skills or play a game that doesn’t appeal to me, I got to put the power back into my hands completely.

My Xbox One S All-Digital Edition allows me to choose adventures for myself and find games that I love. It has given me an escape from reality on the days when I need it the most.

When I first got my Xbox, I searched the web for video games that other females enjoyed. Instead what appeared were tons of posts written almost entirely by men about games that you could “teach your girlfriend” or “keep your girls attention.”  There was such a lack of content created by females for females that I felt empowered to find this information for myself.

I’ve been playing my Xbox almost daily for weeks now and I’ve learned that there is no such thing as a “girly” game. Some days I spend hours playing Halo and Batman. Last week, I spent my Saturday morning playing Disney’s Epic Mickey: the power of 2.

I use my Xbox Game Pass Subscription to find games for myself that I love. I don’t need a listicle to tell me what I should and shouldn’t be playing.

If any gamer girls out there have some games that you are currently loving, please share! And be sure to remind all of the men in your life that #SheCametoPlay.
